DEPARTMENT OF BIOTECHNOLOGY


Bio-Technology is a challenging field of modern science with wide range of applications, In future it may become a major force for human existence. The products of bio technology which includes diagnosis, prevention and care of diseases, new and cheaper chemical products i.e., Pharmaceutical drugs and the new food sources, devices for environmental protection and energy conservation etc. play a very important role in employment, productivity, trade economics and the quality of human life throughout the world. It will not just effect individuals, but have a great impact on society. Students will be trained in various recently developed Laboratory techniques. The industrial training will be provided as per the syllabus.

The departmental laboratory is fully equipped with the modern instruments. Teachers of vast experience in the field will be requested to engage theory and practical classes along with the senior teachers of our own college.

Course Structure & Teaching Methodology.

Biotechnology will be the main subject. Honours students will have to opt for an honours subject with two subsidiary subjects with three options.

a) Botany/ Chemistry

b) Zoology / Chemistry

c) Maths / Chemistry and one compulsory paper and general science.

The main course will put emphasis on the conceptual understanding of the subjects with emphasis on field studies. On job training in industry/NGO, Government organizations is an essential at part of the course the students will be encouraged for team work and group discussions on the relevant topics.

Admission
Students will be admitted on the basis of merit and selection process. The course is ideally suited for candidates with science background . the admission will be subject to merit in the entrance test comprising written examination.

Eligibility

1. Candidates who have passed the intermediate examination of Board (University) 12 years course of the central or state board. 10+2 system or equivalent there of with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths securing at least 50% in aggregate for general applicants and 45% marks in case of candidates belonging candidates to OBC, SC and ST only.

2. Must have qualified at the written aptitude test to be conducted by the College /Department.
