Committed to the cause of Women's education in the newly created state of Jharkhand, Jamshedpur Women's College has come a long and luminous way, starting from its inception in 1953. The vision and dream that its Founder Principal, Mrs. Perin. C. Mehta, had nurtured and worked hard for have been effectively realized in its present manifestation as a prestigious College for women in this region, catering educational, cultural and development services to the women of all categories.
Located in an area of a sprawling 5.334 acres of land, the College comprises 5 blocks of buildings housing the faculties of Education, Science, Arts, Commerce, a Library, a couple of Hostels besides the playground and the parking space.
The aims and objectives that the College has set for itself and has been pursuing relentlessly against all odds, are basically education, all round development of the student, enhancing their employment potential with special attention to the SC and ST students. Steadily progressing in all spheres the College has now set the target to make its students fully equipped to face the challenges of globalization in all sectors ranging from Computers to Culture. Moreover, to translate its mission to cater for the underprivileged as its honoured social responsibility, the College is very active in Extension activities through its NSS, NCC and Rotract Committees. Also, to help the students imbibe cultural values and creative innovativeness, the College activates fora in Sports and Culture Sections in which the students have brought laurels from different National and International events including the Olympics.
In a highly motivated academic environment, offering education in all three Faculties of Science, Commerce and Arts at the undergraduate level, the College also runs Postgraduate Courses in different subjects. Research and quality assessment are the core areas of the Postgraduate teaching, as the College is now taking strides towards networking with different National and International bodies.

Underpinning the needs of physical and intellectual development at all levels, the College has implemented several Self-financing and Add-on Courses, relevant to the regional and national needs, to ensure that students get fully versed in the latest Trends, Technologies and Techniques, to galvanize its motto of Women Empowerment .

Constantly on toes with participation in International Conferences /Seminars /Projects, as well as in National and State-level ones, engaging in UGC funded research works, publishing in National/International Journals and publications, the dedicated band of teachers is engaged in mechanisms for optimal use of resources and infrastructure available to them to upgrade the standard of teaching .

As the horizon of Teaching, Research and Extension are throwing up further dimensions, the College is trying to keep pace overcoming its shortcomings in all sectors. However, the College enjoys a plump position not only in Jamshedpur, but in Ranchi University also by dint of its performance at all levels of education, culture, sports, fine arts, etc. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has graded it with B++, which happens to be the highest grade in Jharkhand. Yet, the motto of the College is to move ahead still. Teamwork, Transparency and Technology being the three seminal objectives of the Teaching and Non-teaching staff of the College, it is now geared to implement its growth related vision to adopt new innovations in teaching-learning techniques in days to come.

As a result of all these efforts the college conferred the CPE Status ( College with Potential for Excellence ) by the UGC in the year 2007. This college being out of the two colleges in Jharkhand which has achieved this excellence.
